1. Job Purpose
The Recovery Officer will be responsible for direct engage
ment with defaulting customers, conducting field visits, negotiating repayment plans, and collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure timely resolution. Success in this role requires hands-on debt collection expertise, resilience, and strong interpersonal skills, combined with strict adherence to company policies and legal standards.
2. Key Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct field visits to recover debts from defaulting customers.
Negotiate repayment plans & settlements of debts.
Provide daily, weekly, or monthly reports on recoveries made, status of pending cases, and cash collected.
Maintain accurate records of recoveries, pending debts, and recovery activities
Investigate and trace customers who have relocated or are unreachable to initiate recovery.
Ensure all recovery activities comply with company policies, legal regulations, and ethical standards
Maintain professionalism and adhere to company code of conduct during all debtor interactions.
Identify potential fraud or high-risk accounts during recovery and report immediately to the Accounts Receivable Manager
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Total amount recovered vs. assigned target.
Percentage of delinquent portfolio reduced.
Number of site visits/field contacts completed daily.
Accuracy of field reports and documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s or Diploma holder in Finance, Business Administration, law and related field.
2+ years of experience in debt collection, field investigations or compliance.
Strong knowledge of recovery methods, field collection and legal procedures. (microfinance/fintech preferred).
Familiarity with fraud prevention and investigative techniques.
Strong abilities to persuade, negotiate, and handle difficult customer confrontations.
Resilience under pressure and ability to trace and recover hard to locate debtors.
Deep understanding of the local area/terrain for efficient field visits.
High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical behaviour.
Ability to work independently and handle field operations efficiently.
